David Manley and James Randell have focused on printmaking and ceramics as their primary media since they started to collaborate in early 2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this process has often happened in fits and starts; James prepared plates for David to draw into, then etched them at his studio in Elephant and Castle and chose tones for the ‘aquatint’ (the larger areas of tone which aren’t linework). David then chose apt titles such as ‘A Craze of Science Fiction’, and ‘The Hover of the Bell’ for the editioned prints.

They have also collaborated on two screenprint and two risograph editions in 2021. They used spray painted stencils in David’s garden and David’s amazing handwritten theories. Images from David’s extensive library of science and science-fiction books made it possible to conduct research and produce images away from the closed gallery. All of their prints are now available on our Hart Club online shop.
